In 1979 Volkswagen introduced the Jetta. It was a radical change from the car it replaced, the famous VW Beetle. In fact the Jetta was built backwards as opposed to the Beetle. The engine and transmission are up front on the Jetta and the engine and transmission were in the back in the Beetle. The first lesson than, is all VW Jetta transmissions for sale are all front wheel drive, no other setups are available.
Suffice it to say a lot of different transmissions have been offered in the Jetta. The type [Typ 1K] or model A5 is the latest generation, made from 2005 to 2010. In 2011 VW will bring out the Volkswagen Jetta [NCS} New Compact Sedan or the Jetta 2.5. All wheel drive is an option for folks who live in slippery geographic areas.
One of the main things VW symbolizes to me is quality, economy and reliability. Seriously, German cars are really well engineered. It does not mean the car has to be expensive to be well engineered. Although the Porsche is German and costs a lot more. With that in mind, Volkswagen’s cost a lot more now than the original Jettas.
Enough trivia. If you are looking for a replacement transmission for your Jetta, the most important thing is the year of the car.
