As promised, this is the third installation of a three part series on Toyota Prius Transmissions, Inverter, and now we shall talk about the Hybrid battery Pack. Although the 2002 to 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid Battery Packs are for sale as separate units, it’s important to mention that all three components can be bought as one kit.

Getting to the technical details;
I’m not an electrical engineer, although this may be somewhat overcomplicated for many folks, this is what Wiki says about Nickel-metal hydride batteries, which are used in most hybrids; A nickel-metal hydride cell, abbreviated NiMH, is a type of secondary electrochemical cell similar to the nickel-cadmium cell. The NiMH battery uses a hydrogen-absorbing alloy for the negative electrode instead of cadmium. As in NiCd cells, the positive electrode is nickel oxyhydroxide (NiOOH). A NiMH battery can have two to three times the capacity of an equivalent size nickel-cadmium battery. Compared to the lithium-ion cell, the volumetric energy density is similar but self-discharge is higher.
