The Kia Forte is a newer compact car with front wheel drive. Introduced in mid 2008. It is a compact car, using a front wheel drive arrangement. Five different models were offered to the public, and five different transmission/engine combinations were offered too.
One off the models is a hybrid car, called the Kia Forte LPI Hybrid, it uses a CVT [continuously variable transmission]. There is no simple way to explain how a CVT works. It save a bunch of weight and fits in smaller spaces.
The automatic transmissions use a feature called lockup, which is like an extra forward gear.
FYI: The front wheel drive system used by Kia is called a transverse mounting system. The engine and transmission sit east to west, or sideways under the hood of the car.
