One of the cute new pee-shooters introduced in 2004 is the Toyota ScionxB. I call it a pee shooter because it is a cute 5 door compact 5 door car which is very appealing to anyone who wants a little something different in a smaller vehicle. It’s simple, with only a 5 speed manual transmission option, or a 4 speed automatic overdrive [transaxle] transmission. Looking for ScionxB transmissions for Sale at Affordable Prices, call GotTransmissions.com now.
The 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission used from 2004 to 2006 is called the U340E. The U340E is a multiple clutch pack, fully hydraulic transmission. It is also a computer controlled transmission. Having a wide array of input sensors through out the chassis and engine, instant shifts can be made from real time inputs.
Using multiple compound planetary gear sets to produce 4 forward speeds. One of the features of this transmission is called a lock up torque converter. What this does is effectively produce another forward speed, making 5 total forward gears. Reducing engine wear and increasing fuel mileage.
Don’t forget that the Scion is front wheel drive car too. Which means the transmission is in the front of the car with the engine. It is mounted sideways, and an axle shaft comes out of each side of the transmission, to the appropriate front wheel to drive the car. An excellent and efficient setup.
Another item I wanted to note is the entire lineup of Toyota Scion’s:
• Scion xA 2003-2006
• Scion xB 2003-current
◦ Generation 1: 2003-2006
◦ Generation 2: 2007-current
• Scion tC 2004-current
◦ Generation 1: 2004-2010
◦ Generation 2: late 2010-
• Scion xD 2007-current
• Scion iQ early 2011-
From 2007 and on the automatic transmission used is a U241E. Which in essence is an updated U340E model. Designed to handle the extra power of the larger generation 11 engines.
The 5 speed standard transmission Toyota chose to use is a rather ordinary Toyota front wheel drive manual transaxle, which is also used in many other front wheel drive min or subcompact Toyota’s. It is conventional in all ways, nothing tricky about it. Just plain and reliable.
