When I was in my late teens, I had the opportunity to buy a 1966 Corvette Stingray (the only real Stingrays were made from 1963 thru 1967) with a 427cid, 427 horsepower engine and one of the Muncie rock crusher 4 speed manual transmissions. It was being auctioned off by a body shop who did a restoration, and the customer did not pick up the car. I got it for a cheap price and it was a real beauty. The body shop did a bionic job on it.
The raw power of this engine was beyond belief, and it is unfortunate that most of the modern gear heads will never feel the crude, unadulterated feeling of a Rat Motor pushing them back in the seat so hard you could not even lean forward to grab a 1000 dollar bill.
Well, that lead to many broken transmissions and clutches. To say the least, I was very popular at the local junk yard, Brandywine auto recyclers in Brandywine Maryland. they are still there, 30 plus years later too. As a matter of fact they expected me to show up regularly for another used Muncie M-22 manual transmission. It was comical, when I look at my past. Back then I could pick up a good used Muncie for 50 bucks. They probably cost 20 times that much or more, if you could find a used one. More than likely you will have to buy a rebuilt Muncie 4 speed.
My whole point in this post is that used transmissions are a great avenue to take if you need a replacement manual transmission. I highly recommend used transmissions that have low mileage instead of transmissions. For most folks used transmissions fit their needs at an affordable price. Most of the used transmissions for sale at GotTransmissions.com have 40,000 miles or less. And if the car was not driven by a wild teenager like me, you are getting a transmission that is barely broken in. Trust me, if you need a replacement transmission, Call GotTransmissions.com at 866-320-1182.
